Composition v1.0 launched!

I just finished work on a Twine digitisation of Marc Saporta's early (1962) hypertext Composition No. 1. Consisting of 150 unnumbered pages, Saporta designed the book-in-a-box to be read in any order. This strange structure makes it almost impossible to track down a physical copy!

While I find Saporta's literary experiment intriguing, I'm not too fond of Composition No. 1's narrative. Most of the pages are sparse and generic, there isn't much cohesion between storylines, and there are scenes involving sexual violence that have been handled clumsily and aged poorly.

Still, I wouldn't have an opinion at all—beyond what digital humanities scholars mention in hypertext studies—if I hadn't gone about digitising the book. Plus it was a great excuse to learn more about Twine for an upcoming project (stay tuned for updates).
